Apple has released iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, visionOS 27, Safari 27, and Xcode 27. The shipping milestone matters most on iPhone: Siri AI is now rolling out as an operating-system service that can use personal context, act in apps, reason over the camera view, and retain conversations in a dedicated app.
What changed
Apple posted the final iOS 27 build, 24A437, on September 14 alongside the rest of its platform releases. On supported iPhones, Siri AI adds multi-turn conversation, broader knowledge retrieval, on-screen and personal-context awareness, and actions in apps such as Messages, Music, and Reminders. A dedicated Siri app syncs conversation history through iCloud, while a camera mode combines Siri with Visual Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence also moves deeper into apps. Photos gains generative reframing, image extension, and a higher-quality object-removal mode. Safari can group tabs by topic, monitor pages for changes, and generate a view-changing extension from a natural-language description. Messages and Mail can suggest actions from context, and the Home app can summarize activity and search eligible HomeKit Secure Video clips.
The release also adds stronger child-account controls, including website approval, category-based time allowances, schedules, and expanded Communication Safety. Apple published a large security rollup for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, but its advisory does not say that any of those listed CVEs were already being exploited.
The practical consequence
Apple has turned Siri from a command interface into a platform-level agent with access to private device context and app actions. That can reduce handoffs between search, writing, camera, and automation tools, but it also makes rollout scope and accuracy more consequential: generated answers, visual interpretations, and actions should be checked before users rely on them.
The base operating system supports iPhone 11 and later, but Siri AI and most new Apple Intelligence features require an iPhone 15 Pro or any iPhone 16 model or later. The rollout begins in English, usage limits may apply, and availability varies by region and feature. Siri AI is not launching on iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS in the European Union; Apple says Mac and Vision Pro availability there is different.
Limits and evidence
Apple has not published accuracy, hallucination, action-success, privacy-audit, or comparative assistant results for the shipping Siri AI service, and DrComps has not independently tested it. Several advertised capabilities are gated by device generation, language, region, iCloud plan, or compatible home hardware. Password auto-upgrades are marked for a future software update, so they are not part of the current release.
Apple claims app launches are up to 30% faster, new photos load up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers are up to 80% faster. These are vendor-run tests using different iPhone models, iOS 26.6, and prerelease iOS 27 under specific workloads; Apple says results vary with configuration and use. They are not independent benchmarks and should not be generalized to every device or task.
